What is the immune system?
The immune system is a complex network of organs, tissues, cells, and molecules that work together to protect the body from infection and disease. The immune system comprises of white blood cells, antibodies and organs like the spleen, bone marrow, thymus, and lymphatic system.
Winter is approaching, it is very important we pay particular attention to doing everything we can to strengthen our immune system.
There are many things you can do to improve your immunity, here are just three immune boosting principles that will hold you in good stead for better health and stronger immunity.
1. Thoughts. Your thoughts have power. They affect you on a physiological and psychological level. You have heard the saying: "you are what you eat" well you are "what you think" as well. Constant negative thoughts create a stress response and in turn will affect your immunity.
2. Breathing is your body’s fuel and nourishment. An inverted or mouth breathing can mean we are not getting enough oxygen around the body. This all-important delivery of oxygen affects your daily tasks, your intense physical activities and your emotional stress. Poor breathing mechanics negatively affects our health, energy and creates a stress response in the body. Doing daily Breath work has positive and calming effect on the mind and the body.
3. Eat whole unprocessed foods including high quality protein, fats and vegetables. Consume more vegetables to at least five handfuls per day. Increasing your vegetable intake increases your Vitamin C intake. Avoid sugar and processed foods. Sugar and alcohol will negatively affect your white blood cell count.
